This has been day two. We woke up around nine and had breakfast with Tim. He knows the Bruce Peninsula pretty well, so he helped us plan our trip. The timber framing setup was pretty rustic. They had cleared out lots of space in the woods just in the past few weeks. There was a lean-to, a giant tee-pee, a solar shower, a rocket stove, and an outhouse that they had built. We packed up and left at around 11:20, which is a time we'd like to improve on. Our goal for tomorrow is to be gone by nine (Ironic spoiler: see tomorrow).
The day was slow and steady for the most part. We didn't get as far as we would have hoped, but we have no reason to complain with such great weather and stunning scenery. We stopped in a small town to get some things for lunch. Martin couldn't wait and ate it right there, but Geoff held off until the mid-afernoon. We all get super hungry very quickly. At one stop, at Ingrid falls on the way into Owen Sound, I planned to have just a light snack, but I ended up eating an Apple, a banana, four twizlers, half a large stick of peperoni, a granola bar, and a good portion of almonds. And I was still super hungry.
We talked to a few people in Owen Sound about where to spend the night. Maybe it was useful, but we didn't end up at any of their suggestions. We ended up biking about 15km outside of Owen Sound, just beside the water on highway 1. It was very pretty. We found the Bruce trail going in from the side of the road and decided to scope it out for a good place to stay. We went about a kilometre in, until we spotted a place to pitch our tents a ways off the path. It's a nice feeling being in the middle of nowhere and having to move a few logs to find a level patch of dirt to put a tent on. We used our stove for the first time and Geoff made what I thought was a very tasty rice dish, although he thinks he could have done "a lot better". The sun was setting just as the food was almost done. Now we are all in the tents about to go to sleep. Tonight Martin and I share a tent, and Geoff goes solo. Good night.
